Acadia/BAR HARBOR, Maine

There are almost 300 hikes on AllTrails app for Acadia National Park, with varying levels of difficulty and elevation. Below are some I’ve done and my favorites!
Beehive Trail - 1.5 mile loop rated hard. This hike is no joke and involves climbing metal rungs on the side of a cliff. Make sure to do the loop in the direction that you’re climbing up the rungs and not down. This hike is a must do while in Acadia, but not for those with a fear of heights. My mom was 62 years old and absolutely crushed this hike!
Gorham Mountain - 3 mile loop rated moderate. This was one of the easier hikes we did. This views at the top are gorgeous.
Ship Harbor Trail - 1.4 mile loop rated easy. This relaxing flat walk offers beautiful views of the ocean.
Thunder Hole to Sand Beach - 2 mile easy out and back walk. Go to Thunder Hole at high tide and it will not disappoint!
Cadillac Mountain -we drove up Cadillac Summit Road, which was the most beautiful scenic drive. Driving up to the summit requires a reservation made in advance online. Cadillac Mountain is the highest peak on the eastern seaboard so it’s a must do while in Acadia. We went for sunset, while most people come early for sunrise. Bundle up as it was windy and cold at the top of the peak!
Precipice Trail - 2.1 mile loop, rated hard. Another awesome steep hike that involves climbing metal rungs and rocks. The panoramic views are incredible.
Beech Mountain Trail - 1.2 mile loop, rated moderate, takes roughly 45 minutes to complete
Penobscot Mountain - We set out to hike this 2.9 mile hike rated moderate, but met a nice, young couple along the way who convinced us to hike Penobscot to Sargent to Jordan Cliffs, and finish at Jordan Pond with a flat walk back to the car. Talk about a day. Penobscot Mountain trail involves rock scrambles and and rungs.
Sargent Mountain - 4.2 mile out and back hike rated hard. Some parts of this hike were wet. We were thankful for the man we met along the way who helped us at some steep, wet parts of the trail. The views were so worth it!
Jordan Cliffs Trail - 5.1 mile loop rated hard. Another awesome hike in Acadia with exposed lifts, iron rungs, and amazing views.
Jordan Pond - 3.1 mile loop around the lake. It was a beautiful walk.
The Bubbles - 1.6 mile out and back trail rated moderate. There are north and south “Bubbles” with North Bubble offering views of the lake.
Ocean Path Trail - easy, flat 4.5 mile out and back stroll. You can access thunder hole from here. This is a nice scenic walk that is welcomed after some of the harder hikes in Acadia!

Bar Harbor has so many excellent restaurants it was hard not to include them all.
Ivy Manor Inn - This is a must stop while in Bar Harbor. The outdoor garden bar is adorable offering a full bar, bonfires, and live music. We stopped here for a drink before getting dinner at McKay’s Public House.
McKay’s Public House - we ate at this high end pub twice, once inside and once outside in their garden.
Project Social Kitchen & Bar - adorable new restaurant and bar offering craft cocktails, tapas, and crepes.
Lunch Bar Harbor - soup and sandwich shop
Rose Eden Lobster - no frills lobster and shellfish shack with picnic tabes.
The Barnacle - pub and oyster bar known for its cocktails and seafood
Jordan’s Restaurant - offers breakfast and lunch, known for their blueberry pancakes
Travelin Lobster - family owned and operated seafood stand, known for its lobster rolls. Tip: go early as the wait time can be extensive and they tend to run out as the day goes on due to popularity!
C-Ray Lobster - another Bar Harbor gem, family owned lobster and shellfish stand. Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Cafe This Way - quaint little breakfast cafe offering cocktails
Aloha - fresh poke bowls
Havana - fine dining American and latin menu

Steve’s place is a newly remodeled 2 bedroom 1 bathroom in-law suite. We had a private entrance with access to the enter first floor of the home including a living room, kitchen, washer and dryer. This airbnb is so close to Acadia and Bar Harbor, only a short 10-15 minute drive. It was perfect for our weekend stay. We were rarely home, making the most of our days, but the beds were comfortable at night and the TV had netflix. It was perfect to relax after a full day of hiking!
Maine is easily one of my favorite states. I love the laidback lifestyle, the “small town” feeling, and how you can combine the mountains and the beach.
I visited Scarborough and Portland in fall 2020 and knew immediately I had to bring my mom back. The following year we left in late September/early October and did a long weekend in Acadia and Bar Harbor stopping in Portland, Cape Elizabeth, and Camden along the way.
Located on Mount Desert Island, Bar Harbor is the cutest little seaside town located right next to Acadia National Park. Bar Harbor is known for its amazing seafood restaurants, shops, and gorgeous rocky ocean views.
The weather in the fall was perfect, with temperatures ranging from the 50s to 60s. Perfect outdoor and hiking weather! The foliage was also starting to change at this time, although would be peak a few weeks later than we went.
Acadia National Park has a $35 entrance fee that is good for 7 days and can be purchased at the entrance booth or online ahead of time. Cadillac Mountain requires a separate reservation fee of $6 that must be made in advance online. It is worth the $6 to hike or drive up to the highest point in Acadia National Park!
